TencentDB for SQL Server allows you to modify the instance-level character set collation during instance creation. This feature meets the self-service configuration needs of some users regarding the default character set. This operation can only be performed on the purchase page and is not supported after purchase. The instance character set provides collation rules for system data, which include case-sensitivity and accent-sensitivity attributes. The collation rule you select for a database affects the results of related operations within that database.
This document describes how to modify the character set collation.
Note:
Two-node local disk instances:
Since modifying the instance-level collation requires a separate configuration of machine resources, if modification is needed, submit a ticket before purchasing to obtain a solution and specify the target character set to be adjusted.
For instances with adjusted character set collations, if subsequent scale-out involves data migration, submit a ticket to obtain a solution.
The default character set collation for an instance is: Chinese_PRC_CI_AS.
Single-node cloud disk/two-node cloud disk/multi-node cloud disk instances:
You can directly modify the instance-level character set collation on the purchase page.

Prerequisites

If your instance is a two-node local disk instance, you must submit a ticket to apply before modifying the character set collation.
If you purchase a single-node cloud disk, two-node cloud disk, or multi-node cloud disk instance, you can directly modify the character set collation on the purchase page with no need for application.

Operation Steps

2. On the instance list page, click Create Database Instance.
3. Navigate to the instance purchase page, and under Instance Configuration, set the Character Set Collation.

4. For other parameter configurations on the purchase page, you can refer to Creating TencentDB for SQL Server Instance. After all parameter settings are completed, click Buy Now.
5. You can view the configured instance character set collation on the Instance Details page.

Collation Rules

Accent-insensitive (_AI)
Does not distinguish accents.
Binary value of characters (_BIN)
Indicates sorting based on the binary values in the character set, disregarding differences in pinyin, glyphs, case, and accent symbols.
