When the cloud disk space is insufficient to meet the business data storage requirements, you can expand the capacity to avoid service disruptions or data loss caused by inadequate storage space.

CBS Expansion Process

1. Expand CBS Capacity

When CBS space is insufficient, you first need to expand the capacity of CBS. You can choose different methods to expand the capacity. For details, see Step 1: Expand CBS Capacity.

2. Expand Partitions and File Systems

After the CBS capacity is expanded, follow-up operations are required to make the expanded storage detectable and available for the instance:
Before Expansion
After Expansion
Subsequent operations
File system not created
The disk must be initialized before it can be used by the instance.
File system created
Disk capacity < 2 TiB
Cloud disks attached to a Windows CVM: extending partitions and file systems (Windows)
Expanded cloud disk attached to a Linux CVM: extending partitions and file systems (Linux)
CBS capacity after expansion is greater than 2 TiB and the partition table format is GPT.
CBS capacity after expansion is greater than 2 TiB and the partition table format is MBR.
Note: The maximum capacity supported by MBR partitions is 2 TiB. If your disk partition is in MBR format and you need to expand it beyond 2 TiB, you must first convert the MBR partition to GPT format. Please refer to the steps in extending partitions and file systems (Linux) for operation.
